Access to Markets for Afghan Producers

Dexis was heavily involved in the USAID-funded Accelerating Sustainable Agriculture Program (ASAP). The program was designed to accelerate broad-based, market-led agriculture development by making it possible for the private sector to respond and adapt to market forces. The project is structured to: 1) link rural producers with markets and input supplies; 2) provide those involved in the agricultural sector with the necessary technical leadership and materials to grow; and 3) promote participation between farmers and private sector entrepreneurs to add value to agricultural raw materials. ASAP also helps harness market opportunities by prompting stakeholders along the designated value chains to take advantage of new opportunities.

Dexis has had several roles in the project, including: assist the Mazar Foods Company to develop a state-of-the art, private-sector venture in the production, processing, and marketing of horticultural products for domestic and regional markets; lead efforts with connector firms to craft client-specific, market-growth plans; analyze market information and consult with connector firms regarding product specifications for quality, size, packaging, and labeling; and set up and oversee the management of AgNet – an agricultural network in selected ASAP provinces – working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MAI).
