Legal Advisory Role on WTO and Other Trade Related Issues in Ghana

Summary

Resolved legal issues and advised local stakeholders in Ghana related to building international trade capacity both in the public and private sectors.


Purpose

To provide legal advisory service to trade-related stakeholders with the ultimate goal of delivering long-term sustained economic growth.


Activities

Established a Tariff Advisory Board requiring the drafting of regulations and operating procedures as well as trade contingency measures. Built capacity of the Tariff Advisory Board and the Technical Secretariat including training on regulations, operating procedures, and trade contingency measures.Assisted Ghanaian government institutions to justify that the level of fees are in compliance with WTO standards including a legal review of the analysis to assure conformity with WTO obligations.


Results

Public and private sector strengthened in its trade development capacity and ability to conform to WTO standards. Laws and regulations updated to international best practice standards and stakeholders trained on both the public and private sectors.
