Summary Developed a business plan for a comprehensive web portal to market tourism in Mongolia and reach new potential customers internationally. Purpose To develop a plan for a financially sustainable information technology and communications mechanism to promote the tourism industry in Mongolia Activities Examined the international market for tourism products facilitated via web transactions. Determined the most promising products and services based upon market demand, competitive advantage, feasibility, and profitability. Identified the most appropriate private sector players to operate the portal and developed a Mongolia industry vendors list. Developed plan for long term financial sustainability of the portal including initial stakeholder support, advertising revenues, commissions on reservations, e-shopping, or other revenue generating activities. Results Launched Welcome2Mongolia (W2M), a web portal providing comprehensive information on all aspects of tourism in Mongolia, on'line booking services with electronic payment settlement, and an interactive inquiry service and forum. |
