Summary

Developed strategy and framework for regional business support center based upon SME and SME business association research in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

Purpose

Enhance regional trade in the Mekong region by strengthening links between business associations in the region.

Activities

Analyzed the needs of SMEs and quality of SME business associations through interviews and research in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Developed the framework for regional business association headquarters to be co-opted by member agencies. Prepared a service charter to ensure high-value services to SMEs in the region.

Results

Asian Development Bank used the strategy to raise multilateral funding for program assistance. Strategy became a model for cross-border business association cooperation and joint initiatives.
